We're thrummin', thrummin', thrummin'

we're thrummin' till the thrum is through
medium_100_1584_edited.jpgOkay, who guesses what famous Jamaican artist I've been listening to while knitting?;-)
I finished my first thrum piece last night, a little mitten for the little miss J.
I've just read about this exciting method on the Yarn Harlot blog, so I asked my mother for a few fleece scraps, which were these:
but I did only take a little of this, just enough to make another pair of mittens pour moi. Nice selection of colors, though, yeehee!
And how wonderful these mittens feel on the inside! That will definitely please you Warm Hands people out there, whom I've had to disappoint so far, as the " Knitting Marvelous Mittens" book I've ordered via amazon marketplace on October 27 (!!!) is still not here. I'm pissed and want my money back, but they're blaming customs for the delay. Grrrrr!
I've been a little bored with the BIG projects lately, and curious about some new techniques. A new book I got at the library came in handy, which taught me how to do a short-row sock heel. Finally, a clear instruction on short rows. I've been so confused about how to wrap the yarn at the beginning of the rows! So here's the product of my first attempt, a little sock. medium_100_1587_edited.jpg(notice the umlauts on my German keyboard?) The pattern I used on the shaft is called 'seaweed', and while I enjoyed knitting it, it simply doesn't show on this self-striping yarn. Maybe I'm going to use the pattern again sometime, as I LOVE seaweed. Great color, great taste, great nutritional value:-)

That is a cute glove. I'm definitely going to try to knit a short row heeled sock after my Christmas gifts are all done. I'm up for a bit of a challenge. Yours looks great so far!

Thanks, Kimberly! Isn't that one of the great joys of having children? You get to practice all kinds of techniques on a small scale AND you can make someone wear it!;-))

Thrumming is so cool - I'm thinking of trying to do it with gloves since no one in my family will even consider wearing a mitten - they're "so not cool" ;o)

I don't know if it works that well with gloves- you have to knit the items pretty large because the thrums take up so much space. If you did gloves, I'm sure the fingers would be spread apart too much to be comfortable. Mmh...
And while I think that mittens are not uncool, they simply aren't very practical unless you're out in the woods hiking or some other place where you don't need to use your fingers to get change out of your pocket ;-)

I love your mittens! I've been thinking about making a pair after the "Christmas Knitting" is done. They look soo nice and warm! Great job! ;)

Great thrumming! Knitting and Bob Marley reggae - now that sounds like a fun time ;)
